Tsavo West National Park

| Tsavo West National Park, along with Tsavo East National Park, are two of Kenya's largest. Over 7,000 elephants make the park their home, making it the largest population in any Kenyan park. Fed by massive springs from Mt. Kilimanjaro the parks year round water supply attracts a wide variety of game year round. |

One of the main attractions of Tsavo West is Mzima Springs. Every day its waters are replenished with over 220 million liters from the underground streams originating from the Chyulu Hills, 40-50kms away.
Mzima Springs attracts many animals, especially elephants that love spending their time here. Hippo and crocodile are not an uncommon sight either.

In the Ngulia escarpment at the foot of the of the Ngulia Hills from late September to November an amazing sight occurs. Attracted by the lights of Ngulia Lodge, thousand of migrant birds descend through the mist only to be netted, ringed and then released. This phenomena has become one of the bird wonders of the world.
Besides the many elephants, other animals such as lions, giraffe, and antelope are common. More rare are the fringed-eared Oryx, the gerenuk and the lesser kudu. The carnivores found here include serval, hyena, leopard, cheetah and caracal. The landscape is filled with giant baobab trees and a few are reported to be over 1000 years old. |
